Lindt Chocolate

Thursday, January 31, 2008

A while ago I read this article about higher-purity chocolates from Lindt.  The article is a great read, I had no idea that you could even buy a 70%, 85% and 99% pure cocoa chocolate bar, but I always kept it in my mind that I wanted to try it sometime.

Last week I was leaving Wal-Mart when I spotted a Lindt 85% bar for about $2, so I had to pick it up and try it.  Thinking back I probably should have gotten the 70% bar and worked my way up, since that’s what Lindt recommends anyway since these are so strong and unlike any other chocolate I’ve ever had before.

Unwrapping this bar feels like it’s one of the Wonka bars and I half expected to find my golden ticket inside.  It is a very very dark chocolate, almost black in appearance and very brittle.  I snap off a square and let it melt in my mouth, and wow is it strong!  It’s not a “chocolate” like you’re used to at all, it’s more like a strong coffee with a cocoa flavor.  At first I wasn’t too sure about it, but it grows on you.  I let some friends try it and 2 out of 3 don’t like it at all, which honestly doesn’t surprise me.  This isn’t for everyone at all, it’s a unique food for connoisseurs.

Next time I think I’d try buying the 70% version of this, just to try it and see the difference.  I like the 85%, but it can be a bit strong to just sit down and enjoy, so the 70% might be better for this.  With that said, if I ever see the 99% version, I’d definitely get that just to say I’ve tried it.  I know I won’t like it though, 85% seems to be my limit for now.

Daft Punk

Sunday, January 27, 2008

After spending a weekend at a southern gospel music conference, it’s time to listen to something else.  Now I really don’t normally like techno/electronic music, but Daft Punk does it so well you can’t hate it.  I’ve been a fan of theirs for a while now and I don’t listen to them as often as I probably should, but recently I found they had a new album, Alive 2007.

This is a live album where they perform remixes, which is pretty bold since your fan already love your music and you re-work it for them in a live venue for the first time.  But they’re all great songs, I’ve been listening to this album a lot this past week.  I love to crank up the bass on this album because it’s so powerful (my neighbor’s dog seems to hate it though).

How can you not love music from guys that dress as freaking robots?  Here’s a video form the Alive 2007 tour.

Pen Cutlery

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Now this is just a great idea.
You put these special pen caps on your pen, and you have instant cutlery.  It’s even made of natural starch fiber, so it’s 100% biodegradable.

How to Stop Terrorism

Monday, January 21, 2008

And why is this man not being heard by any major network?  He’s replaced Guliani as the frontrunner and no one seems to care.

To avoid another post on almost the same subject, here’s an incredible intorductory video to who Ron Paul is.

Studio 812

Saturday, January 19, 2008

Yesterday Derek and I went over to Studio 812, which is the recording studio primarily used by Paradigm Music Group to take some photos of the studio.  If you clicked on that link, then you know they need a new website, and luckily that’s the reason we were taking photos.  So I’ve got a few photos from the shoot.

Netflix is Nifty

Friday, January 11, 2008

I feel like I’m one of the last people to sign up for Netflix, but I finally did it back in November, and so far it’s been great.  There’s no video rental place close to me, and there’s a lot of old movies I somehow missed seeing in my lifetime - Netflix seems to solve both of these problems for me very easily.  I’m still amazed that I’ve never seen Pulp Fiction or Close Encounters of the Third Kind, but don’t worry, they’re in my queue and I’ll get to them eventually.

I made a small change to this site, now I’ve got a page dedicated to displaying my Netflix Queue and recently viewed movies which you can view right here (or in the footer at the bottom).  Basically I just used the Magpie RSS/Atom Parser plugin that comes with Expression Engine just parses the RSS feed from Netflix.  It was a lot simpler than I imagined, and it even works better than a plugin someone wrote specifically to work with Netflix.

Post-2007

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Well I’ve been pretty busy running around for the past few weeks and haven’t had time to sit down and write something new here.  So, here we are in 2008, what’s new with me?  For one, I finally got Super Mario Galaxy and it’s incredible.  I haven’t gotten too far yet (only 8 stars or so) but i’m having as much or more fun with this game than I did when I first player Mario64 back in the day.  It’s such an inventive game, always presenting you with new ways of solving puzzles you have to wrap your mind around.  I really need to take a few days and sit down to play this and complete it, then I can have time to get back to playing Zelda which I’m ashamed to say I still haven’t finished.

After my long Christmas/New Years stay in North Carolina my dad and I took a trip down to Alabama to visit a friend of his for a few days.  I had a great time down there meeting great people, and doing some fun stuff.  We went to a sporting clay range, which I’d never heard of but it was a whole lot of fun.  Basically it’s golf....but with shotguns.  You go to different stations, and shoot the clay pidgins coming from different directions as accurately as you can.  My dad put some pictures up from our trip on a picasa web album.

Now I’m back home here in Panama City, and back to work on the multiple internets that I must make.  Currently I’m finishing up the new website for my church, Hiland Park.  It’s getting very close to being done, mostly content needs to be added, then find a good flash video player to put the web streams into.  After that comes the fun of transferring everything from the testing domain I’m using to the real website and then switching the church email over to gMail via Google Apps.

Oh, and I finally set up time machine since I now know it doesn’t take over your external drive, and it’s great.  I no longer have to worry about manually making backups, I just plug in my drive and it works.

On another note, I’m still amazed at how well Ron Paul is doing everywhere I look.  The ONLY,and I mean only, political signs I’ve seen anywhere have been for Paul.  On the drive back from Alabama a man at a gas station saw my bumper sticker and complimented me on it, I loved it.  He’s no longer viewed as just some 3rd party candidate that has no chance of winning.  He’s raised more money that some of the “frontrunners” and even beat out a few of them in the few caucuses that have been held so far.  ALl I can say is good for him, and great for America.  If you don’t know who he is, look at his site, read up on him, and search youtube - you’ll like what you find.
